Role of the CoR Archives ServiceThe CoR Archives Service is responsible for organising, protecting, managing, describing and preserving the Committee's documentary resources, and providing them to the public.
Once they are delivered to the Archives Service by the originating departments, the archives are repackaged, scanned and put on microfiche so as to ensure their physical preservation. A description of each file is made so that search tools (inventories) can be created. Two collections of archives
The archives are organised in the CoR Collection, made up of documents resulting from the Committee's specific activities, and the Presidents' Collection, made up of files supplied by the President's private office at the end of each presidential term (two years from 1994 to 2010, thereafter two and a half years).
The documents from the two collections are filed in accordance with specific filing plans and are the subject of separate inventories.

In accordance with European law on public access to archives, the Committee Archives may be consulted freely 30 years after their creation; their consultation shall comply with the rules on the protection of personal data; any documents made accessible to the public before the 30-year period has expired are to remain accessible without restriction.
The consultation room is accessible to researchers by appointment and is subject to security requirements, including the production of an identity document. Copies of documents consulted may be obtained free of charge.
