03.03.2009 - CoR calls for entries for annual Thesis Competition

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is once again hosting its annual doctoral thesis competition on local and regional authorities in the EU. Started in 1996, the purpose of the competition is to reward doctoral theses defended at a university in an EU Member State that specifically highlight the regional and local dimension as a main theme. An independent selection board comprising university professors will award a first prize of 6000 euros and up to four additional merit prizes of 2000 euros.

The candidate must have obtained his or her doctorate during the course of the two years prior to the competition being announced and the thesis must be written in one of the EU's official languages.

Candidates must send their file in one package, postmarked 25 May 2009 at the latest. Applications should be sent to the following address: Committee of the Regions, Directorate for Consultative Work Studies & Legislative Planning Service (VMA 833), 101 rue Belliard, B – 1040 Brussels.

The Price Award Ceremony will be held during the CoR's December 2009 meeting of the Plenary Session.
