Quotas, mentoring, political-party funding and the broader objective of equity need to be considered in efforts to increase the representation of women in politics in the Mediterranean region, according to an all-women panel of mayors and politicians from Tunisia, Morocco, Germany, Italy and Ireland that met in Brussels on 18 October.

Het Europees Comité van de Regio’s (CvdR) – de EU-assemblee van lokale en regionale overheden – heeft tijdens zijn plenaire zitting van 26 juni in Brussel een advies goedgekeurd waarin ervoor wordt gepleit om voor de EU-besluitvorming op belastinggebied over te stappen van eenparigheid van stemmen naar gekwalificeerde meerderheid van stemmen. In het door de Franse burgemeester Christophe Rouillon opgestelde advies wordt erop gewezen dat gezamenlijke inspanningen op fiscaal gebied noodzakelijk zijn om de problemen op het gebied van belastingfraude en grensoverschrijdende handel alsook klimaatverandering aan te pakken, aangezien de gevolgen ervan lokaal voelbaar zijn.

The Commission for Economic Policy (ECON) of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) assembled over 60 elected politicians from across the EU in the Lithuanian town of Druskininkai. Participants discussed the revision of the EU's tax policy, the need to foster European industry's global competitiveness and the challenges and opportunities that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent at the local and regional level. Ahead of the European elections in May and with rising concerns over political fragmentation and the outcome of Brexit, cities and regions still stand as change agents that connect global challenges with local realities in order to deliver a better Europe for all citizens.

On 15 February 2019 a delegation of 10 CIVEX members visited Saint-Omer, in France, at the invitation of Mr François Decoster (FR/ALDE), Mayor of Saint-Omer and Vice-president of the Hauts de France Region. The aim of the visit was to present the network of Europe Correspondents that was launched in May 2018 in the Urban Conglomeration of Saint Omer's area (CAPSO).
