School food in Kungsbacka will be more climate smart. But what does it really mean and what changes have we made to the menu?

According to the city council's goal, Kungsbacka will become one of the leading municipalities in environmental and climate issues. Our eating habits have a major impact on the climate. That's why we work in several ways with more climate-smart food in schools and kindergartens. This means that food should contribute as little as possible to the increase in greenhouse gases that affect the climate. Here's what we do to reduce our carbon footprint:

  • Coordinates food transport
  • Minimizes food waste
  • Selects raw materials by season
  • Choose meat with care and have more vegetarian on the menu

What changes have we made to the menu?

More climate-friendly food means changes in the menu. We have made these changes since spring 2018:

  • About one vegetarian day a week
  • Less beef
  • Fewer servings of rice replaced by bulgur, couscous, wheat or potatoes
