This pilot investment serves as best practice example for all of the local authorities in the region and beyond. All interested parties can prepare similar investments in their towns and municipalities thus multiplying results in energy savings and reduction of greenhouse.

Within Dynamic Light project, which was funded by Interreg Central Europe programme, several local authorities in Central Europe implemented pilot investments linked to enhancing of public lighting technology. Thus, in the Town of Čakovec, following development of several important baseline databases, analyses and planning documents, new public lighting system in the Town centre has been installed (in seven streets encircling town centre). More accurately, 160 old, inefficient sodium luminaires were replaced with 150 new, LED based lamps.

Furthermore, control and management system has also been installed which regulates light intensity depending on the real situation on the road (traffic density, weather conditions). The investment led to the decrease of the installed power of over 38 kW, decrease of annual energy consumption of 157,305 kWh (more than 65%) which led to significant cost reduction as well as reduction of CO2 emission of more than 59 tonnes annually. When taking into account actual investment of 79.816,66 € and annual savings of 18.500,00 €, simple return of investment period has been calculated at 4,3 years.
