Thanks to the renewal, these facilities will be healthier and more productive for current and future generations, the lifetime of the building has been extended, and adverse impacts on the environment reduced.
City of Rijeka, after joining the Covenant of Mayors initiative, initiated by the European Commission in 2009, opted to develop itself sustainably by reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, increasing renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency.
In the "City of Rijeka's public buildings energy renovation" project, 21 public buildings are renovated on a basis of energy efficiency principles. Expected savings in annual energy for heating is more than 65%. Thanks to the renewal, these facilities will be healthier and more productive for current and future generations, the lifetime of the building has been extended, and adverse impacts on the environment reduced.
The projects have been implemented in an environmentally acceptable manner with a favourable impact on the environment, having regard to the creation of new, better microclimatic conditions. The same goals were recognised by the citizens of Rijeka, which has the largest number of renovations of apartment buildings in Croatia.
