In a time marked by geopolitical instability, the war in Ukraine, the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate threats, and rising militarisation, the topic of security has become more relevant than ever. To address these pressing issues, a special event will take place at Stacja Kultury (Culture Station), 2 Starowiejska Street, Rumia, bringing together regional leaders and young citizens for an open and engaging dialogue.

The meeting is organised by Mieczysław Struk (PL/EPP), Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship and Member of the European Committee of the Regions. He will lead the discussion on the European dimension of regional security, focusing on how regional governments like Pomorskie are managing various aspects of safetyranging from external and internal security to information, economic, energy, food, and health security.

Marshal Struk will also highlight the European Union’s financial support for regional initiatives that aim to protect citizens and strengthen resilience. The Mayor of Rumia, as host of the event, will contribute insights on how EU policies and funding impact safety at the local level.

A key feature of the event is a moderated discussion with young participants, who will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance and engage directly with the speakers.

Target audience: young people aged 15 to 19, especially members of regional and local youth councils and school student councils, are warmly invited to take part in this important conversation.

Expected outcomes:

  • Increased awareness among young people about how regional and local governments manage security.
  • Insight into current EU programs that support local safety initiatives.
  • A dynamic exchange of ideas and questions between youth and policymakers.
