What is the Alliance?

A consultation on a renewed Declaration 2.0

The partners of the #CohesionAlliance would like to renew their political engagement in the post-COVID-19 Europe. The joint ambition is to ensure that strong financial EU support is offered to Member States, regions, cities and villages. They are on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis and the EU 2021-2027 budget and the post-pandemic recovery plan must help them protect citizens, support local economies and make local communities resilient to future crises. To this end strong cohesion policy is needed more than ever and cohesion must be a key objective for all EU policies and investments.

The #CohesionAlliance partner organisations have therefore put forward, on Europe's day, a draft proposal for a new declaration of the #CohesionAlliance.

To ensure a timely and inclusive process they would like to invite all interested organisations, institutions, individuals and signatories to send in their comments via e-mail to: cohesionalliance@cor.europa.eu by May 30th.

A final version of the new declaration will then be agreed upon by the partners of the #CohesionAlliance and be presented before the upcoming European Council meeting.

Currently worth one third of the EU budget, the EU's cohesion policy reduces regional disparities, creates jobs, opens new business opportunities and addresses major global issues such as climate change and migration.
The #CohesionAlliance is a coalition of those who believe that EU cohesion policy must continue to be a pillar of the EU's future. The Alliance was created through cooperation between the leading European associations of cities and regions and the European Committee of the Regions. It demands that the EU budget after 2020 makes cohesion policy stronger, more effective, visible and available for every region in the European Union.
From national, regional and local governments to SMEs, NGOs, schools, universities, cultural organisations, anyone who believes in EU cohesion policy is welcome to join the #CohesionAlliance.
