Regional offices in Brussels

Regional offices in Brussels were established in 1984 to represent EU local and regional authorities, or interests of groupings of cities and regions, and to advocate for their interests at the EU level.

While these offices are informal in diplomatic terms, they are considered significant stakeholders by the EU institutions. They interact with EU institutions and many of the regions have formal representation through the European Committee of the Regions. In 2025, there were around 200 regional offices.

The regional offices support the work of the national delegations in the CoR as well as individual CoR members. They participate in stakeholder consultations organised by the EU institutions and organise numerous events in Brussels, notably during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

Access badges to the CoR and the EC for the staff of the regional offices

The CoR is responsible for issuing badges to regional offices' staff, granting them access (renewed yearly) to the premises of the CoR and the European Commission. Representatives of non-EU countries also may have the right to access badges.

If you are a representative of the regional office and wish to obtain an access badge, please contact the Registry of the CoR.
