The implementation of this plan has enabled all the competent public authorities to work together, to identify existing regulatory, financial and technical barriers, and to jointly consider solutions to be implemented in the short, medium and long term.
Adaptation to climate change is a major challenge under the Green Deal and the Regional Sustainable Development Plan for Territories (SRADDET). The coast of Occitania is at the forefront of this climate change and concentrates the challenges faced by many territories in the region (exponential demographic growth, undeniable tourist attractiveness, land scarcity, economic development strongly based on tourist seasonality, etc.).
It was within the framework of the Coastal Plan 21, which brought together the Occitanie Region, the State and the Banque des Territoires, that the emergence of a climate change adaptation plan for the Occitanie coastline emerged. The result of two years of co-construction with coastal communities, this plan allows coastal territories to integrate risk management and the effects of climate change into spatial planning by deploying local integrated coastal management strategies. This plan includes both strategic guidelines for rethinking coastal development with a view to mitigating vulnerabilities and actions to be taken (strategic studies, territorial planning, work to reduce vulnerability, consultation, etc.).
