The change in several buildings' heating systems is significant, with a shift from oil to renewable energy and with heat produced in the form of district heating, supporting jobs for local people.

In the region of Yli-li, the heating systems of two properties using oil-based heating (the library and crèche) have been exchanged for a district heating system, where the heat is produced using woodchips. The district heating is produced by local farmers and forest owners, as well as the forest management association. Partners in the project take it in turns to be on duty for the heat production system, on alternate weeks.

District heating was originally provided for the school in Yli-li and has since been extended to public buildings in the neighbouring area and to rented apartments last summer with the expansion of the district heating network. In the past, these properties were heated using oil, but now this is done using woodchips.
