Your job and responsibilities

As a cost-free seconded national expert in the Future Lab sector of the Events and local dialogues Unit in the Directorate for Communication, you will be responsible for the coordination of communication activities and events in the area of gender equality and local democracy. This includes conceptualizing conferences and sessions, horizontal coordination on press, social media and visual communication tied to the policy area, managing the content of the "For more women in politics" webpage and initiative, horizontal coordination on the work of the Gender Equality Working Group of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). 

You will also liaise with institutional partners, such as the European Parliament and the European Commission and coordinate joint activities such as the participation of the CoR to the European Parliament Gender Equality Week. This includes internal coordination with the CoR's political groups and the CoR's SEDEC commission.

As part of the Future Lab sector, you will also have an opportunity to explore innovation and synergies between the different remits of the sector, including the Young Elected Politicians (YEP) programme and EU Local Dialogues.

Who are we? What are the challenges for us ahead?

Our Unit D.2 - “Events and local dialogues” is one of the four units under the Directorate for Communication. With a staff of around 20 people, the Unit is responsible for the development and deployment of direct outreach activities of the CoR. Together with the Unit D.1 - “Press office, relations with media” and the Unit D.3 - “Digital communication and IT strategy”, we promote the political work of the CoR across three thematic communication campaigns – cohesion, resilience and proximity. The Unit is divided into 2 sectors:

  • Flagship projects – responsible for the organisation of large-scale events, such as the European Summit of Regions and Cities, the European Week of Regions and Cities and EuroPCom;
  • Future Lab – responsible for the coordination of the Proximity communication campaign, including work on Youth (Young Elected Politicians), Democracy (EU Local Dialogues), Gender Equality (For more women in politics).

Our Unit also has a mandate to pursue innovation in outreach activities, such as the usage of AI, digital avatars and innovative engagement platforms for community members.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Candidates for an SNE position must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be employed by a national, regional, or local public authority or an intergovernmental organization;
  • Have worked for at least three years, full-time, in an administrative, scientific, technical, advisory, or supervisory post;
  • Be nationals of a Member State of the European Union or a candidate country for accession;
  • Have been in the service of their current employer for at least twelve months; and
  • Be able to prove that their employer will continue to pay their salary, maintain their established or contractual employment status and guarantee their social rights and benefits, particularly as regards to social security and pension rights, throughout the period of secondment.

Candidates should fulfil the following selection criteria:

  • You have specific knowledge and/or relevant experience in the area(s) of stakeholder engagement, event organisation or community management.
  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of gender equality and/or democracy is desirable.
  • You have a good command of IT applications and tools, such as Outlook, Excel, Word and SharePoint, including AI tools in a secure environment.
  • You have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another of the EU official languages. For functional reasons, a high level of English is required and a good level of French is desirable.
