The February ENVE commission meeting will take place fully in person on Thursday, 8 February 2024 from 11:00 to 17:00 in the room JDE 52 at the European Committee of the Regions, Rue Belliard 99-101, Brussels.

The agenda includes the adoption of two opinions on:

  • "Localising energy production: the role of geothermal energy", by rapporteur József RIBÁNYI (HU/ECR);
  • "Biodiversity protection and coexistence with large carnivores in Europe – challenges and opportunities for local and regional authorities", by rapporteur Csaba BORBOLY (RO/EPP).
     

In the afternoon, the meeting will resume with a debate on the priorities of the Belgian Presidency.

It will be followed by a debriefing of the CoR participation at the UNFCCC COP 28 in Dubai.

Two exchanges of views are scheduled on

  • "Towards a Global Green Deal: harmonizing global frameworks for climate change, biodiversity and sustainable development", by co-rapporteurs  Rafał TRASZKOWSKI (PL/EPP) and Kata TÜTTŐ (HU/PES);
  • "Towards a resilient water management to fight climate crisis within an EU Blue Deal", by rapporteur André VIOLA (FR/PES).

One exploratory debate is also foreseen on:

  • "Preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution", by rapporteur Roberto CIAMBETTI (IT/ECR).
