Tailoring agreement to increase reuse in Kungsbacka municipality

Sustainable development and a healthy environment is one of Kungsbacka municipality's goals. Now the municipality will invest more in reusing, maintaining and repairing.

As part of the work on sustainable consumption, the municipality will develop a battery of repair services, or circular services, for internal purchases. First up is the municipality's work clothes that should now be sent for repair at the tailorshop.

Tailoring with sustainability profile . Kungsbacka municipality has signed a new agreement for repairing work clothes with the companies K2C in Kungsbacka and Repamera.

K2C in Kungsbacka is a work-integrated social enterprise that started up 2017 by repairing bicycles from the municipality's recycling centres. After that, the business was expanded with a tailoring. Today, the company has 13 permanent employees who were previously far from the labour market.

Repamera is a company that offers tailoring services online and the agreement with Kungsbacka municipality is the first with a public operator.

The reuse of clothing brings great climate benefits . When we reuse our clothes, it brings great climate benefits.

"One kilogram of textile waste produces 25 kilos of CO2 equivalent per kilogram of textile waste, equivalent to 200 kilometres of petrol-powered passenger car. In addition, new clothes contain a lot of chemicals, about two kilos of chemicals per kilogram of finished textiles," says Anna Hallin.
