The use of new technologies makes agriculture a key player in the fight against climate change. It creates efficient local farming and improves the way we provide people with food, using sustainable energy and re-usable waste.

If we are to adapt to climate change, reduce our carbon footprint and make the most of our resources, we need to do things differently.

The Andalusian farm of the future has adopted some completely new innovations, alongside a number of others already in place. To bring Andalusia, a region on Europe’s periphery, into line with other areas located more centrally within the EU and which have innovative agricultural sectors, we need to make progress on knowledge, through innovation, to keep moving forwards.

The project’s strategy involves incorporating a range of technologies into agricultural production, thus bringing farming up to date and making it fit for the 21st century.

All electricity consumed by the farm of the future will be supplied by solar energy and hydrogen. For the European Union, a sustainable form of zero-emissions energy storage is essential. Hydrogen will provide storage of excess energy resulting from peak solar exposure hours in order to match supply and demand.

Hydrogen's energy storage features make it ideal to power innovative drone prototypes.

In Andalusia, intensive crops are cultivated in greenhouses. Our project aims to improve these greenhouses, taking them to the next level, which means using vertical agriculture and advanced growing systems, in greenhouses that use hydroponics and LED lighting, controlled remotely by a smart monitoring system in an urban setting, using digital sensors.
