This strategy is a cross-cutting instrument for including climate change in the different policies and aims to involve society as a whole.
Murcia's Regional Strategy for Climate Mitigation and Adaptation stems from the mandates of its Regional Assembly and the region's Governing Council. After the strategy had been drawn up by the department responsible for climate change, the Regional Climate Change Observatory and the Regional Government departments were consulted.
The strategy is intended to guide the administrative actions of the sectoral departments of Murcia's regional administration and the other economic and societal administrations and organisations, and pursues two main objectives:
Objective 1: Reducing emissions in non-ETS sectors by 26% by 2030.
This objective is consistent with the commitments made by the European Union that are binding upon the Kingdom of Spain, with which new plans and projects have to comply and which undertakings and organisations that are already operating have to take as a guide.
In addition to reducing emissions, adaptation measures are needed to address the effects of climate change and reduce the economic and environmental costs arising from these effects. As a result, the second main objective of the strategy is:
Objective 2: Making the region less vulnerable to climate change.
To achieve these objectives, 15 broad strategic lines of action are being implemented.
