The City of Jyväskylä is committed to achieve following visions: Jyväskylä will be a carbon-neutral in 2030 and a zero-emission and zero-waste city of sustainable prosperity without overconsumption in 2040.
These visions have been incorporated into the Resource-wise Jyväskylä 2040 Programme, which is a strategic programme of measures approved by the City Council in 2019 and updated in 2022. It provides an extensive framework for resource wisdom work of the city organisation, its subsidiaries, and public utilities, from targets to implementation and monitoring.
The Environmental Watch is a digital platform service, which enables the City to plan, execute, and monitor the Programme efficiently. The service is divided into three segments, which are linked to each other: the application, the reporting tool, and the website. The application provides an easy-access user interface to keep the information of the Programme updated. The reporting tool assists managers to keep the actions and targets of the Programme on track. The website makes resource wisdom work visible and transparent to city’s decision-makers as well as different stakeholders, such as citizens. The key element of the service is the up-to-date information: as the application is updated, the information in reporting tool and the web site, will be updated as well. This feature is extremely useful for knowledge-based management at different levels of City organisation as well as visualising the data on the website.
