  • Strategy/Plan on Climate neutrality or Green Deal

This approach gives our citizens greater scope to express their views, opinions and in this case their vision.

Each local authority in Ireland has a statutory requirement to draft a climate action plan. Normally this plan proposes actions under a series of local authority departments. However, this department focused approach fails to integrate actions and indeed fails to foster cross departmental conversations and joined up thinking on applying a climate lens to everything we do. This year's approach considered planning across 4 foundations - a resourceful city, a resilient city, a creative city and a social city that put city living, working and recreating at its heart.

Recognising core human needs, our key question in our public consultation on our draft action plan was What is your vision for Dublin for 2030? This question is more inclusive and allows the public to focus on their own immediate living needs within our city. It also indirectly allows us to benchmark ambitions - are we ahead or behind public opinion. Follow-up questions asked how our various foundations fulfilled those needs.

Our consultation was promoted on our social media, the draft plans were on show in all our municipal libraries and we held a variety of talks and events to highlight the broad lens of climate during the consultation period.
