The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is preparing the opinion Environmental Implementation review - implementation and simplification of the EU environmental policies, led by rapporteur Stefania PROIETTI (IT/PES), President of the Umbria Region.
This opinion aims to assess how EU environmental legislation is implemented on the ground and to identify concrete ways to improve procedures while strengthening enforcement. It addresses challenges such as environmental crime, biodiversity loss, waste management, pollution, and the uneven capacity of local and regional authorities to carry out EU obligations. The consultation will help ensure that the Committee of the Regions’ recommendations reflect the practical needs of territories and support more effective, fair and workable environmental policies across the Union.
A discussion and the vote on the Draft opinion will take place at the external ENVE Commission meeting on 18 June 2026 in Assisi (Italy); the final adoption is expected during the plenary session on 12-14 October 2026.
