Small-scale local food production based on organic farming criteria helps local areas and regions become more resilient, storing carbon in the soil and preserving fertility. It also contributes to the right to healthy eating and sustainable economic activity.

Sant Feliu de Llobregat is working to systematically use its landscape for food production, with a view to becoming a more sustainable, healthy and pleasant city to live in. The city covers an area of 12km², half of which is situated within two parks: the Baix Llobregat agricultural park and the Serra de Collserola natural park. It is an ideal combination of two spaces: a fertile plain along the river, perfect for horticultural production, and a mountain where silvopasture could be established.

To develop the project to boost urban and peri-urban agriculture, the City Council has, since 2018, been working on a number of plans to promote agricultural activity in both spaces. It also participates in the European Edible Cities Network, a project that aims to develop the connection between the inhabitants of Sant Feliu de Llobregat and their food environment.

These plans and initiatives are:

  1. Plan for the protection of the agricultural park within Sant Feliu
  2. Participation in the Alimentem Collserola project
  3. Participation in the Edible Cities Network (EdiCitNet)
