LIFE-myBUILDINGisGREEN project: Nature-based solutions for climate adaptation in Gabriela Mistral School

It is a tool that serves local quality of life, bringing together adaptation to climate change, healthcare, environmental awareness and the promotion of biodiversity at municipal level.

Badajoz Provincial Council is taking part in the LIFE-MyBUILDINGisGREEN project "Application of Nature Based Solutions for the local adaptation of education buildings and social centres to climate change".


This project is driven by a Spanish-Portuguese partnership formed by: the National Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). The Royal Botanical Garden and the Eduardo Torroja Institute. CARTIF Technology Centre Badajoz Provincial Council Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alentejo Central Porto Municipal Council Climate Change is one of the most serious environmental, social and economic challenges facing the world. Its impacts (heatwaves, changes in annual and seasonal rainfall patterns, etc.) affect the well-being and health of children and elderly people who use these centres to a greater extent.


Good practice consists of defining and implementing various prototype Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in Gabriela Mistral School in Solana de los Barros (2 553 inhabitants), in order to improve its adaptation to climate change. At the same time, these solutions are being applied in schools in Évora and Porto. In addition, governance actions have been implemented to integrate NBSs into local policies and to involve the population.


Its budget is EUR 2 854 102, 60% co-financed by the European Union's LIFE programme. Badajoz Provincial Council is contributing EUR 443 593.
