Mandate

The Working Group on Defence (WG Defence) was established on the 1st of April 2025 by the Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), to reflect on and promote the contribution of local and regional authorities (LRAs) to the European Union’s evolving security and defence architecture.

The WG serves as a platform for inter-institutional cooperation with key EU bodies and facilitates the exchange of best practices among its members. It also promotes coherence in defence-related opinions, ensuring strategic value and cross-sectoral expertise within the Committee of the Regions’ work on defence and security.

Composition

Mr Fernando López Miras (ES/EPP) is chairing the Working Group, which consists of 9 CoR members who can be replaced by 9 other members/alternates. See the members of the Working Group.
