Regional and local authorities are key actors in the protection of endangered species and habitats. This is why it is imperative to give a significant role to LRAs and other local stakeholders in the implementation of the Nature Directives. Through the local dialogue on "Conservation of Biodiversity and the Coexistence Challenges Posed by Large Carnivores" Mr. Csaba Borboly (RO/EPP) drew public attention to the regional and local specificities of ensuring better conservation of endangered species and habitats which would also take into account socio-economic aspects.

Objectives of this event included:

• Strengthening Member State's compliance with the Nature Directives: strategies and measures at local level in reaching the EU's biodiversity targets;

• Determining the role of local and regional authorities in improving the implementation of Nature Directives;

• Analysing good practices from European countries in improving the implementation of Nature Directives;

• Communication strategies: how to raise the awareness of citizens, stakeholders and communities in

conserving nature?

• Improving synergies with EU funding instruments – better use of EU funding and making nature more

attractive to public and private investments.

Meeting outcomes:

• Increased awareness and knowledge among stakeholders about the Nature Directives

• Improved collaboration and partnerships among stakeholders
