Summer Camps for Ukrainian children

Summer Camps for Ukrainian children is a joint flagship initiative of the European Committee of the Regions and the Association of Ukrainian Cities. Launched in 2022, the initiative welcomes Ukrainian children to cities and regions across Europe and provides them with a safe place to enjoy cultural, sports, educational and recreational activities. It makes a difference by giving them a break from the brutal reality of war. Summer holiday projects also help Ukrainian children and young people: they have the chance to feel that Europe is their home and a place where they can be safe and feel supported.

Summer Camps 2026

Cities and regions are encouraged to take part  in the Summer Camps initiative by organising summer camps for Ukrainian children and sharing their plans and experiences at  SupportUkraine@cor.europa.eu

Building on the experience of previous years, the European Committee of the Regions and the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC) have prepared dedicated support materials, which contain practical tips outlining the steps that local and regional authorities are advised to follow when organising a summer holiday project for Ukrainian children.

For expressions of interest and any questions you may have on how to set up a summer camp, you are invited to contact the AUC team, coordinator of the initiative, at summercamps@auc.org.ua

The European Committee of the Regions also invites EU cities and regions to share information and images of their summer camps to promote their efforts and work. To do so, please complete the following survey.

Summer Camps 2022 - 2025

Thanks to the remarkable commitment of EU cities and regions, summer camps have brought moments of genuine hope and joy to Ukrainian children and to the communities welcoming them. Since 2022, the CoR–AUC Summer Camps initiative has grown from hosting 1 250 children to more than 3 000 annually across 50 cities.

"These are not just statistics, they represent individual stories of children who were able to leave air-raid sirens behind and experience the peace and safety of our communities. Each summer camp project has shown that providing a safe environment to play and interact with their European peers is a powerful act of solidarity and defiance against the cruelty of the ongoing war.", Kata Tüttő, President of the European Committee of the Regions
