As a result of this project, the extremely ambitious goals that the City of Poreč-Parenzo has set for itself are increasingly defined in terms of reducing CO2 emissions, increasing the share of energy production from sustainable energy sources, energy efficiency, sustainable urban development, and better quality of life for residents.
"Solar-powered generators in the City of Poreč" is a project via which eight solar-powered generators that produce electricity from solar energy, with a total rated power of 100 kW, have been installed on the roofs of eight public buildings (primary schools, sports halls and kindergartens), along with eight solar thermal collector systems that produce thermal energy from solar energy, which is then used to heat water in these buildings.
With the implementation of these systems, for the fifth year in a row, part of the total electricity requirements and thermal energy needs for the production of domestic hot water has been continuously provided in these buildings, thus achieving significant savings in primary energy consumption and significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
To date, these solar-powered generators have produced 720 000 kWh of "green" electricity, including 30 000 kWh of "green" thermal energy. If the same amount of energy were to be produced from coal, the amount of CO2 generated would be 237 tonnes; from oil it would be almost 188 tonnes, while for natural gas the amount of CO2 emitted would be about 140 tonnes.
