ENVE works in fields related to the European Green Deal, which include the environment biodiversity, circular economy, zero pollution, climate change, energy, and space policies.
Demand for raw materials, their availability and sourcing costs – and whether they are recyclable – are constantly posing new challenges for industry and policy-makers. In order to find new solutions and approaches, the Land of Baden-Württemberg has joined with businesses and academia to set up an Industrial Resources Strategy think tank.
The think tank is co-financed by industry and is examining ways of re-using raw materials more effectively and more completely within the circular economy.
This is the first think tank of its kind in Germany, providing policy-makers and industry with scientific advice on raw materials and resource efficiency. As a region that has few raw materials, Baden-Württemberg is very interested in their economical and efficient use, and in the recovery of resources from waste.
One of the think tank’s tasks will be to develop ideas about what type of structural changes and new business models are compatible with increasing deployment of resource-efficient technologies and a comprehensive circular economy. The think tank will also be looking at transparency in the raw materials supply chain and the potential for digitisation to make production processes more efficient.
