It is an initiative that is easy to replicate in local areas to skill those who are unemployed in emerging activities aimed at fighting climate change. In addition, it is a demographic challenge measure that creates jobs and maintains the population of rural areas.

The "AdaptaClima: job opportunities connected to climate change adaptation and mitigation" was developed by the Badajoz Provincial Council's Rural Development and Sustainability Area (ADRS), with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation at the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, through the European Social Fund's (ESF) Empleaverde programme.

ADAPTA CLIMA is a strategic project for employment, competitiveness and the demographic challenge. It aims to seize employment opportunities connected to climate change adaptation and mitigation by skilling those who are unemployed – through different levels of training – in skills related to the fight against climate change, improving their opportunities for employment in three key areas: renewable energy, sustainable mobility and green infrastructure. A training plan has been implemented, consisting of training in different formats as well as individual counselling, to create pathways towards promoting employability in the field of climate change.

It has a budget of EUR 142 651.46, 90% of which is co-financed by the ESF. It contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action).
