Through collaboration and innovative steps, this approach not only secures EU support but also ensures better water management, demonstrated by the successful utilization of funds and the implementation of an error-notification system for immediate intervention in case of issues.
Following the adhesion of Romania to the European Union, Harghita Council has helped to the development of regional water and sewer provider companies instead of more little local service providers. This can be explained by the fact that a larger company disposing of better technical equipment and specialists is a greater guarantee able for producing good quality of drinking water.
The European norms are demanding the existence of water supply and waste water collection in each settlement and populated area (deadlines 2013, 2015, 2018). For this the EU also provides support for the member states. These funds may be applied by specific institutional systems and not by local governments.
This has led to the creation of the Development Association established by local councils (Harghita Water) and the Regional Service Provider established by the association (Harvíz LLC.). The establishment of regional water and sewer service providers in Romania, as mandated by the European Union, is crucial for ensuring high-quality drinking water and waste water management. This initiative combines the efforts of local governments through the Harghita Water Development Association (ADI) and the Regional Service Provider (Harvíz LLC), enabling efficient delegation of service tasks.
