This exhibition celebrates the pedagogical expertise of early childhood learning and the broader perspectives on our shared future. The roots of Finland’s public early childhood education in nature can be traced to the small southern town of Hämeenlinna. The first group to spend its days learning in nearby natural environments was established at Hirsimäki Daycare Centre in 2005.
Mrs. Anu Hätinen, is a recently retired doctor (general practice and occupational health) who has passionately pursued photography as a field of study since 2011. Inspired by the positive effects of spending time in nature on health and well-being, Hätinen spent a year (2024-2025) documenting the daily activities of the Hirsimäki forest preschool group in nature surrounding Hämeenlinna.
Access to the buildings of the EU institutions is possible but regulated. Only persons registered at an event (conference, meeting, etc.) in the JDE building where the exhibition is hosted can visit the exhibition.
