  • Territorial cohesion

At a key stage in negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework and related legislations, the event will explore the new proposed performance-based approach, future thematic priorities, and cooperation at internal and external borders. Through panel discussions, practical breakout sessions and networking opportunities, participants will help shape the next generation of Interreg and identify solutions to future programming challenges.

Hosted by the European Committee of the Regions, the event opens with welcome speeches and a high-level plenary on “Quo Vadis Interreg?”, focused on orientations for post-2027, with contributions from DG Regional and Urban Policy, the Committee of the Regions, Member States and partner-country representatives.

A second plenary will give the floor to Interreg programmes to reflect on where they stand and the challenges ahead, bringing together managing authorities and programme representatives from cross-border, transnational and other cooperation strands.

On the second day, discussions will turn to the proposed performance-based approach in Interreg, including how programmes can build costing methodologies and prepare for future reforms. The agenda also includes breakout workshops on key EU political priorities, notably eastern border regions, the maritime dimension for islands and coastal communities, and cooperation governance, creating space to examine future thematic priorities, border cooperation at internal and external borders, and links with broader governance and territorial tools.

Throughout the programme, networking is supported through shared lunches, stands for important cooperation initiatives (Interreg Volunteer Youth, b-solutions, Interact stand), coffee breaks and a cocktail reception, helping participants exchange experience and identify solutions to future programming challenges. Furthermore, Interact programme will make sure that the 15 years of Interreg Cooperation Day is properly celebrated at the 2026 Interreg Annual event.
