The Regional Government of Galicia, in cooperation with the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), will host a strategic discussion on the future direction of the Common Fisheries Policy at a crucial moment for European fisheries governance.
The debate will address the ongoing evaluation of the current CFP framework, the European Commission’s emerging vision for the sector towards 2040, and the roadmap for the energy transition in fisheries and aquaculture.
Participants will also examine the implications of the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034) and the need for adequate financial support to accompany the environmental, climate and energy transitions affecting coastal and maritime communities. Particular attention will be given to ensuring the long-term sustainability, competitiveness and resilience of the sector.
The event will provide an opportunity to highlight the essential role of regional authorities in shaping and implementing place-based policies for coastal development. By bringing together policymakers and stakeholders, the exchange aims to identify common challenges, explore solutions and contribute to a future Common Fisheries Policy that reflects the realities and needs of Europe’s maritime regions.
