EU Local Dialogue organised by Chrysostomos Doukas (EL/PES) in Athens will bring together elected women from across Attica's 66 municipalities to discuss women's participation in local decision-making and the challenges and opportunities they face in shaping local policies. The event, organised in the framework of Gender Equality Week 2026, will explore what happens beyond gender quotas, focusing on meaningful participation, leadership, influence and representation in local governance. Through presentations, exchanges with Attica's six women mayors, and an interactive dialogue involving women holding local leadership positions, participants will examine how local experiences can contribute to the wider European debate on women's political participation and the quality of local democracy.
The dialogue will take place on 23 October 2026 at Athens City Hall under the title "Beyond quota, what next? Elected women in the Municipalities of Attica". Key discussions will address women's representation in local government, leadership pathways, and the conditions needed for women to participate effectively in decision-making processes at local level.
