This is the latest edition of the Green Deal Funding Alert, a monthly newsletter that keeps you informed about funding opportunities and initiatives that support sustainable development and the transition to climate neutrality. This month’s edition highlights key initiatives for European citizens who would like to take an active role in driving the EU’s climate action. Three opportunities are featured: an online course about AI, a call for experts supporting citizen energy projects, and EUR 318 million in funding under the Horizon Europe programme for green energy initiatives.
1. EU Climate Action Academy: AI for Climate Solutions course
Are you interested in learning how the use of artificial intelligence can support the progress of the green transition?
The EU Climate Action Academy is organising two thematic webinars as part of their AI for Climate Solutions online course. On Tuesday, 16 December you can discover possible practical applications of AI – for instance, for energy systems and extreme weather monitoring. As a follow-up, the webinar on Tuesday 27 January will facilitate discussion on the ethical challenges of using AI to speed up climate action.
Dates: Tuesday, 16 December 2025 (12:30-14:00 CET) and Tuesday, 27 January 2026 (12:15-13:00 CET)

2. The Citizen Energy Advisory Hub: Call for experts
Would you like to support planning and implementation of citizen energy projects?
The Citizen Energy Advisory Hub is looking for experts who would be able to provide technical assistance to the beneficiaries of their programme. The experts are expected to possess knowledge in at least one of the following areas: capacity-building support, investment and financial support, technical support, legal support, and stakeholder engagement support. To ensure tailored support for beneficiaries, experts will be assigned in relation to the specific needs of the projects, with the cooperation starting in spring 2026.

3. Horizon Europe: Call for projects under the 2025 Work Programme for Cluster 5
Are you looking for funding for your sustainable-energy-related project?
The European Commission is providing financing under Horizon Europe’s 2025 Work Programme for Cluster 5, for projects in the area of climate, energy and mobility. More specifically, EUR 318 million is available for initiatives connected to the themes of ‘Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply’ and ‘Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use’. The aim of the investments under Cluster 5 is to accelerate the twin green and digital transitions, accounting for the climate neutrality and European competitiveness goals.
Deadline: Tuesday, 17 February 2026 (17:00 CET)
