In the face of the current climate challenge, Occitania aims to be the first positive energy region in Europe by 2050, following an ambitious path that will require everyone's involvement (citizens, businesses, elected representatives, etc.).

The Occitania region aims to be the first positive energy region in Europe by 2050. To achieve this goal, energy consumption at regional level needs to be reduced to the maximum through energy sobriety and efficiency, in order for the energy consumed by the region's inhabitants to come exclusively from local renewable energy sources.

To this end, a "Positive energy region" (REPOS) strategy and path were established in 2016. The REPOS strategy is the climate change mitigation component of the Green Deal for Occitania.

It goes beyond mere energy saving in that it also notably tackles energy poverty and the extraction of natural resources. This strategy opens up new horizons in terms of markets and the creation of sustainable, local jobs, and in terms of improved quality of life, social wellbeing and citizen engagement.

It also enables the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants. Regional mobilisation is happening with the use of various different tools the region has at its disposal, as well as through a plan for the power to live (pouvoir de vivre) and energy sovereignty.

The plan aims to deeply transform our current energy model, ensuring everyone is provided with the means to take part in this transformation.
