Niina Ratilainen (FI/The Greens) will organise an EU Local Dialogue in Turku entitled "A City Made for Girls - A Girls' Day brunch discussion about urban spaces designed for girls". Organised in connection with the International Day of the Girl, the event will bring together parents, local politicians and child welfare experts to discuss how cities can better respond to the needs of girls and young women
The discussion will focus on the importance of integrating a gender perspective into urban planning, including the design of public spaces, public facilities and leisure opportunities. Organised in cooperation with Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, the event will take the form of an informal brunch and fireside chat, creating an accessible setting for participants to exchange ideas directly with local decision-makers. Childcare will be available throughout the event, enabling parents of young children to take part in the conversation.
The dialogue will highlight examples of girl-friendly cities across Europe, including Vienna, and explore how local communities can create more inclusive and welcoming urban environments. By bringing together citizens, experts and politicians from different political backgrounds, the event aims to encourage discussion on urban development that better reflects the experiences and needs of girls and families.
