Thanks to V2G technology, Kungsbacka aims at reducing its energy consumption.

Kungsbacka municipality is testing the so-called V2G technology. This means that some of the electric cars that the municipality has today will share their energy reserves with the municipality's activities. In the first stage, ten charging posts are put up outside the town hall.

V2G is an abbreviation for Vehicle to Grid, roughly "from vehicle to grid". V2G devices are a type of fast charger that not only charges electric cars, but also brings back the energy stored in the car batteries to the mains. In this way, electric cars can provide energy to the municipality's activities. In the future, the technology can also be used to stabilize the electricity grid, which results in lower electricity costs for the municipality.

The initiative is being made in collaboration with car manufacturer Nissan, whose cars support V2G technology, and the energy company EON, which will be responsible for the operation of the charging posts.
