The event, organised by Donatella Porzi (Renew/IT) in Palazzo della Provincia, Piazza Italia (Perugia) brought together local administrators from Umbria region to exchange on the topic of gender violence. The debate was open to local institutions and actors specialized in this topic, such as regional equal opportunities centres, anti-violence centres, law professors and school teachers, sports groups and companies. Individual experiences were shared to enhance professional knowledge.
The conference offered the opportunity to evaluate the topical opinion SEDEC-VII/039 "Stopping gender-based violence - cities and regions leading the way", and plan a series of actions in the short, medium and long term.
The main objectives of this EU Local Dialogue included: collecting data, prevention of abuse and violence, education and information of women and young girls about existing measures, as well as provision of real protection to the victims following a complaint, so that they don’t find themselves alone having to continue dealing with this issue at home, work and in the family.
The complexity of the phenomenon of gender violence requires constant, shared and very specific action.
