KlimaPark Kysak supports environmental education with innovative, interactive methods, enhancing understanding of climate change. It exemplifies sustainable architecture and serves as a year-round educational and tourist attraction, boosting regional identity and raising climate.
KlimaPark Kysak has officially opened its doors as the largest audiovisual environmental centre in Eastern Slovakia. Situated within the School of Nature in Kysak, the centre aims to bolster environmental education for both students and the public. Its focus is on climate change, its adverse impacts, and measures for environmental protection.
Visitors can engage in interactive learning through features such as a 4D panoramic cinema, a large LED wall, and a green roof designed to capture rainwater. Developed by the Košice Self-Governing Region, the centre marks a significant milestone in the region's landscape renewal programme, ongoing for six years. KlimaPark Kysak stands as the region's largest green initiative to date, with construction costs exceeding 2 million euros. Funding for the project included EUR 1,880,000 from the Cohesion Fund and approximately EUR 200,000 from the regional budget.
The building itself is a renovated former storage and gym facility, now incorporating sustainable materials, energy-efficient lighting, and new social facilities. Inside, visitors will find four rooms equipped with advanced audiovisual technology, offering immersive experiences related to natural disasters, environmental changes, and climate impacts. Additionally, educational programmes tailored to various age groups are available.
Throughout the year, the centre will host conferences, camps, school trips, and seminars. Given its location near a watercourse, flood protection measures have been implemented, including high-quality insulation and a proposed PUMPTRACK cycling track to aid in flood diversion.
