The Commission brought forward the EU Livestock Strategy and the Protein Action Plan on 7 July 2026 as part of the follow-up to the Vision for Agriculture and Food, with the objective of strengthening the resilience, competitiveness and sustainability of EU livestock farming while reducing strategic dependence on imported protein feed.

The DG AGRI of the European Commission and Carlo FIDANZA (ECR/IT) Member of European Parliament and rapporteur on How to secure a sustainable future for the EU livestock sector in light of the need to ensure food security, farmers’ resilience and the challenges posed by animal diseases will contribute to the debate

  • Coastal Communities Strategy
    Rapporteur: Anthony CHIRCOP (MT/EPP)

The EU Strategy for resilient, prosperous and liveable coastal communities is part of a series of territorial strategies elaborated by the European Commission and has been presented in a triad together with the Strategy on Islands and the Strategy on the Outermost regions. It promotes an integrated, place-based approach built around prosperity, resilience and liveability. It supports sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, coastal tourism, maritime industries, blue bioeconomy, offshore renewable energy and stronger local value chains. It addresses climate risks, ecosystem restoration, coastal and critical infrastructure resilience, connectivity and preparedness. The Strategy also focuses on affordable housing, access to services, demographic challenges, skills, generational renewal and maritime heritage. It promotes participatory governance, community-led development, stronger involvement in maritime spatial planning, cross-border cooperation and improved access to coordinated EU funding and investment. As such it represents a very good opportunity for local and regional authorities of coastal areas to put forward their role in the management of the complex interaction amongst a diverse range of EU policies that have a territorial impact.

The DG MARE of the European Commission and the European Parliament rapporteur on the strategy will contribute to the debate.

Political Debate:

Vaccines: misinformation, hesitancy and role of public authorities

Vaccination is among the most cost-effective ways to prevent serious and deadly diseases.

It prevents an estimated 3.5–5 million deaths annually, eradicated smallpox and made Europe free from polio.

Despite efforts, vaccination coverage remains insufficient in the EU.  This is due to a false sense of security, access barriers, supply issues and online misinformation that drives delays and refusals.

Vaccines are not just for children. A life course approach is key to maintain protection across all ages and this means staying up to date on recommended vaccines in line with official guidelines.
