This EU Local Dialogue was built around the themes touched upon in Letizia Barbetta's recent book "Tornerò a volare" – temporary fragility, illness, moments of crisis and depression at a young age. CoR member Donatella Porzi (IT/Renew), together with scholars, local administrators and book's author.

This was a debate about how having a community support network can create a protective shield for youngsters facing many challenges. The debate tried to reflect on the need to put in place some concrete and shared actions to support young people in fragile situations, to provide positive examples of such actions and to remind the audience that Europe also means this form of solidarity and support.

The participants of the event underscored the importance of:

  • looking more carefully at the fragilities of young people;
  • structuring a real network between the various educational and training agencies;
  • providing psychological support also within schools for children, professors and teachers;
  • providing training recovery courses for individuals who have had to due to moments of fragility suspend school attendance;
  • encouraging investments in research and prevention for rare diseases.
