  • Nature-based solutions and green infrastructure (e.g. tree-planting, nature regeneration and greening of urban areas.)

The project demonstrates the feasibility of transforming a degraded area into a multifunctional swimming facility, rooted in nature-based solutions, while supporting environmental sustainability, boosting tourism, and fostering social cohesion.

The Radlje ob Dravi Water Park proudly stands as Slovenia's first and only biological swimming pool, where water cleanliness and quality are upheld exclusively through natural organisms. Originally a natural lake, the site was transformed into a swimming pool using sustainable construction principles and nature-based solutions, ensuring that no chemicals are ever added to purify the water or render it suitable for swimming.

To maintain optimal water quality, the facility adheres to stringent national hygiene standards for bathing areas and performs weekly water analyses. Keeping the pool's natural balance is crucial so that visitors can relish this green jewel throughout the summer in the untouched surroundings of the Drava River.

Ten years after its planning, the project has matured into a green tourist destination that offers additional visitor services. The area has been honoured with the Slovenian Green Destination award and title, illustrating the positive impacts of its planning and establishing it as a burgeoning tourist hotspot within the municipality.
