On 11 September, CoR rapporteur Thomas Schmidt (DE/EPP) organised a hybrid stakeholder consultation with the participation of DG CNECT Zeno Tornasi to discuss the proposal for the EU Chips Act 2.0.
CoR rapporteur, Thomas Schmidt (DE/EPP) met bilaterally the European Parliament Shadow rapporteur Matthias Ecke (DE/S&D), both from Saxony. They discussed their respective points of view and planned work on the EC proposal, notably the creation of a regions of excellence label and related network.
On 9 September, the European Semiconductors Regions Alliance organised an event in the European Parliament "European Chips Act 2.0: From industry to region, European policy to shape innovation ecosystems". The event included DG CNECT Director General Roberto Viola, Shadow rapporteur Matthias Ecke (DE/S&D), and CoR rapporteur's expert Frank Bösenberg who is also the managing director of Silicon Saxony. The CoR administration also participated in this discussion which kickstarted the work of regions on the proposal for the EU Chips Act 2.0
