  • Zero pollution in air, water, and soil
  • Sustainable territorial and urban planning
  • Adaptation to climate change
  • Circular Economy
  • Biodiversity and protected areas
  • Nature-based solutions and green infrastructure (e.g. tree-planting, nature regeneration and greening of urban areas.)

This process is important because it is the first time in Germany (and perhaps in Europe) that a holistic approach has been taken to regional green infrastructure planning and all its facets.

The green infrastructure 2030 campaign has so far resulted in a better basis for analysing green infrastructure, broader communication with municipalities, federal state institutions and associations, and the practical implementation of 25 investment projects.

A charter for green infrastructure in the Ruhr metropolitan region was developed as part of an ongoing participatory process with stakeholders in the region. This charter acts as a statement of intent, as a commitment and as development guidelines for green infrastructure in the region.
