Malaga Film Office, being aware of environmental issues and committed to tackling them, has been implementing sustainable development practices that prevent and minimise the environmental impact of the audiovisual activities carried out in Malaga.
Malaga City Council provides production companies with various tools free of charge to try to prevent their work in the city from having any negative impacts. This includes a decalogue with ten measures, or ten commandments, for sustainable production:
- Include green values not only in everyday life, but also in the scenes of the film project itself. Environmentally responsible behaviour should be shown by the characters (recycling, drinking from reusable bottles, etc.).
- Whenever possible, choose green suppliers who provide their services and products with no or minimal impact on the environment (sustainable catering, renewable energies, etc.).
- Raise the team's awareness by appointing a green officer to organise and coordinate the process and set common environmental objectives. Motivational initiatives could be created, such as rewarding "green" people on the shoot.
- Choose accommodation close to the main filming location, giving preference to hotels that are sustainable, have a specific environmental policy or calculate their carbon footprint.
- Offset the carbon footprint: a reforestation project could be carried out at the main filming location or you could consult with the environmental department or an NGO about potential solutions to offset the carbon footprint.
- Choose locations responsibly, taking into account factors such as proximity, environmental regulations, etc. Organise the separation of waste, placing accessible recycling points to leave the location as it was before filming began.
- Whenever possible, choose electric or hybrid transport, arranging for the team to share transport (using high-capacity vehicles). Organise journeys efficiently.
- Reduce, reuse, recycle. Incorporate these values into all film projects.
- Advertise on your website, social media and in the media that your production is sustainable. This provides added value for your work and promotes and raises awareness of the audiovisual project.
- Evaluate the carbon footprint you generate and calculate the resulting footprint after implementing all the green measures.
