Understanding Europe from the local and regional perspective
Based on original studies commissioned by the European Committee of the Regions, as well as academic research, contributions from other European institutions and open source documentation, the Report provides facts and data for policy-makers and relevant stakeholders. The main findings and recommendations have been echoed in the annual address on the State of Regions and Cities in the European Union, to be delivered by the President of the European Committee of the Regions, Vasco Alves Cordeiro on the 7th October 2024.
This year's Report, published in the context of the 30th anniversary of the European Committee of the Regions, focuses on solutions and ideas for the future of Europe. The Report acts as a blueprint for a closer, stronger, more cohesive and ambitious European Union. While it provides a clear view of why regions and cities matter and what are the most pressing challenges, it offers recommendations on what regions and cities call for and what they can do.
The Report is forward-looking, acting as a foresight guide for the new EU institutions at the beginning of the legislative term.
