The external 4th meeting of the CIVEX commission will take place on Monday 7 July from 10:00 to 13:30 (GMT) at the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, 3 Calle José Manuel Guimerá, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. The conference on the "Reception of unaccompanied migrant minors and opportunities at origin - the role of cities and region" will be held on 8 July 2025 from 09:00 to 13:00 (GMT) at the same venue.

The meetings are hosted by Fernando Clavijo Batlle (ES/renew E.), President of the Government of the Canary Islands.

At the CIVEX commission meeting on 7 July, members will discuss and adopt the opinion of Matteo Bianchi (IT/ECR) on Enhancing the territorial dimension of the EU - Switzerland relationship. Furthermore, members will engage in an exploratory debate on the opinion of Karin Müller (DE/EPP) on Establishing a common system for the return of third-country nationals staying illegally in the Union, and have an exchange of views on the opinion of Anne Rudisuhli (FR/renew E.) on ProtectEU: a European Internal Security Strategy. An exchange of views with the Presidency of the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE) is also planned.

The conference of 8 July will bring together local and regional authorities, policymakers and experts in the field to address the challenges involved in the reception and inclusion of unaccompanied migrant minors across the EU. It will also provide an opportunity to share insights on how to put into practice a more comprehensive approach to migration and integration management and to ensure efficient and durable solutions. Additionally, the conference will explore a broader perspective of EU migration management, incorporating development cooperation and transnational partnerships as key facilitators of the "whole-of-route" approach to addressing migration challenges.
