In the framework of the 30th anniversary of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the 40th anniversary of Spain's accession to the European Union, this seminar focuses on the reflection on the future of cohesion policy and its transformative role in the Spanish Autonomous Communities. Since its entry in 1986, Spain has been one of the main beneficiaries of the European structural and investment funds, which has allowed an unprecedented development in infrastructure, innovation, employment and territorial cohesion.

However, in the current global context, marked by the green transition, the digital transformation and the increasing pressure on social and territorial cohesion, cohesion policy faces new challenges. As the EU redefines its strategic priorities, it is crucial to analyse how this policy can continue to be a driver of development for Spanish regions and how it should be adapted to respond to the emerging needs of each territory.

Through dialogue between political, academic and institutional representatives, this conference seeks to generate proposals that guide the evolution of cohesion policy in Spain and in the EU as a whole, ensuring that it continues to be an effective instrument for integration, balanced development and the reduction of territorial inequalities.
