  • Vision of Europe

In a series of UE Local Dialogues, Jens Christian GJESING (DK/PES) discussed with various groups of citizens the most important questions related to the EU: its history, the role of the Union as peacekeeper, its economy, institutions, decision-making, the impact of migration and climate policies on local communities, and much more.

On 23 February, a debate took place in Haderslev Handelsskole (Kroghs Kobbel 2, Haderslev, Danemark) with students of the high-school, and first-time voters in this area. The upcoming European elections were discussed; following a short survey, the audience thought that the top priorities for the EU were: 1) Peacekeeping by stronger economic and military cooperation; 2) Environment and climate; 3) Migration; 4) Equality; 5) European values.

Subsequent local debates took place on 7 March, 12 March, and 24 April.

On 12 March, Mr Gjesing met elderly citizens of Simmersted in the local debate club (Simmersted Multihus, Harken 1) talking about the European elections, the UE history and policies, and gathering citizens feedback about their expectations towards the EU.
