Energy efficiency in public buildings of the Abruzzo Region

The interventions carried out have allowed savings in energy expenditure and reduction of CO2, as well as more comfortable conditions in schools and, consequently, better learning by students and greater well-being of pupils, teachers and schools staff.

Action to support the promotion of eco-efficiency and the reduction of primary energy consumption in buildings and public structures, was carried out with the active collaboration of the municipal administrations and schools and contributed to increasing citizens' awareness of the need and the advantage of intervening directly to reduce energy costs. The synergistic action was further strengthened through the regional operational technical desk to support the 74 municipalities in accessing the thermal account, or in reporting costs to the GSE Energy Services Manager for the recovery of a part of the expenses.

An intervention was conducted according to the strategy of the participatory process with the active involvement of the municipality, schools, citizens and stakeholders. The action has developed in a very short time since the construction site was open for a few months during period when the schools were closed. Another important aspect is the direct attribution to students and school staff of the three-year monitoring of the reduction of consumption and emissions, to increase the individual awareness of young people and citizens.
