  • Nature-based solutions and green infrastructure (e.g. tree-planting, nature regeneration and greening of urban areas.)

The Master Plan draws together in a single document all of the initiatives, to meet the challenges of the Green Deal in a more coordinated way and to make Zaragoza a healthier city that offers a better quality of life.

The Green Infrastructure for Zaragoza Master Plan was approved in late 2017, after a long drafting process that took place as part of the LIFE Zaragoza Natural project.

With this plan, Zaragoza is committing itself to re-establishing balance and harmony between its natural spaces and the urban environment. The aim is to strengthen existing work on the conservation and restoration of sensitive environments (such as wetlands, forests, ravines in the steppe, etc.), and also to make progress on integrating natural processes into the urban environment, with the aim of improving people's quality of life and minimising the city's impact on the Zaragoza area. The City Council is committing itself to protecting and improving these areas through active measures to increase their environmental quality and natural regeneration, along with a publicity campaign for local citizens, who are active players in supporting the conservation of their cultural landscapes.

Zaragoza is getting ready to carry out future projects in harmony with their natural environment, which it views as a useful ally in creating healthy cities that offer a better quality of life and also for taking on board the new European Green Deal.

The Plan was awarded a prize at the European Urban Green Infrastructure Conference in Budapest (EUGIC 2017) and its 150 actions are now being gradually implemented.
